I had a craving for fish and wanted to try a spot I had heard about down the street from Dorsey High School called Mel's Fish Shack. I didn't know what to get, so I got Red Snapper and Salmon with grilled veggies and greens. My wife got a dinner plate that included Salmon, shrimp, fries, and hush puppies. I tried a bit of everything with our spread, and this is my new favorite go-to spot for seafood. I highly recommend this spot to anyone with a taste for perfectly seasoned seafood.

I wasted $47 on this place. Fries soggy, catfish soggy, sole burned, red beans/rice hard AND dry…. So disappointing

Pros: Excellently fried fish. Nice and crispy. Excellently fried onion rings. Also crispy. Good red beans and rice. Cons: Orange ruffy fried crispy was a little bit salty Excellent meal!

I don't know what's up with the last review. But they are definitely opened! Anywho this was my first visit here, found them on google then I was able to place a pickup order through chownow and 20 minutes later I walked in and it was ready the gentlemen that assisted me at the pickup window was nice. I ordered the shrimp and cajun catfish with potato salad and fries with a peach cobbler for dessert. Wow everything was delicious! My fries were a tad bit chilly but other then that I was satisfied with how they cook and fried my fish and shrimp. The peach cobbler was a little small I wish they offered a small and large size but man it was like one of the best peach cobblers I've ever had. I will be returning !

I have ordered Mel's Fish for a while. But lately, for the past 3 months, they have messed up my order. One time the fish and hush puppies were burned when I asked for it crispy. The hush puppies was mush on the inside and burned on the outside. The fish crumbled and tasted just like burned oil. 2 other times w/in the 3 months my fish was undercooked and chewy for cooked crispy. Only once they got it right. It seems the cook is overheating the oil and not changing it out for fresh oil. I gave two stars for the food because I know they season well but the burned used oil and undercooked fish on more than 1 occasion is not it for me. I hope this will motivate them to fix it.

My friend and I had heard great things about Mel’s but somehow had never tried it, so we gave it a shot tonight and were not disappointed. The staff is unbelievably friendly and helpful and the food was amazing. We ordered there and it took a minute to prepare, but it was well worth the wait. The prices are great for the size of the meals and everything we had was delicious and tasted fresh. I’d highly recommend the fried filet of sole and peach cobbler. Do yourself a favor and stop by and grab a great dinner for you and your friends/family.

I love the art on the outside of the building! The most important part is the fish. Personally I get the Mrs. the fishes since I’m veggie tarian, but the food always smells delicious. She tells me that the jumbo shrimp is amazing, and I casually believe her. I eat her fries and I become addicted to the seasonings. All in all it’s a cultural spot that is worth it.

Although I have not visited this restaurant, I have ordered food delivery many times. I have always been pleased with quality of the food, the prices, and their excellent service. At one time there was an error in my order and I needed to contact them. The error was corrected and I was treated with the utmost courtesy. The persons delivering my food always follows my direction. I enjoy supporting smaller family businesses and encourage others to do the same,
